Greenhouse and Field Assistant

Position Purpose

The Greenhouse and Field Assistant (Part-time) is responsible for supporting day-to-day greenhouse and field operations, ensuring the health and vitality of our plants.

Organizational Relationships

Direct Supervisor: NHB Greenhouse and Field Trial Manager

Significant Relationships: Berry Blue Team

Locations

1.  Grand Junction, MI

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

1. Assist with plant care and maintenance including sowing, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, monitoring of weeds, insects, and disease development, soil and plant tissue sampling, and tagging of plants.
2. Participate in the propagation of plants through various methods such as seeding and cutting.
3. Ensure the greenhouse is clean and organized by sweeping, disinfecting, and performing general maintenance tasks.
4. Ensure grounds are well maintained by mowing and applying herbicide.
5. Support the team with irrigation systems. 
6. Maintain accurate records of greenhouse inventory including plants, seeds and supplies.
7. Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve project objectives.
8. Other responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Qualifications and Skills Required

1.  Previous experience in greenhouse and plant care is preferred.

2. Experience with tractors and irrigation systems.

3. Able to grasp new concepts quickly.

4. Able to work independently and in a team.

5. Demonstrated attention to detail.

6. Excellent time management and organizational skills.

7. Knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.

8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

9. Flexibility with job requirements.

Physical Demand (With or without accommodations)

1. Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

2. Must be able to lift and carry 25-50lbs.

3. Must be available on weekends and prepared for a 40+ hours of work (as the business need requires).
